DO YOU KNOW WHAT BRICCOLE ARE?
Briccole are large wooden poles used in the Venetian lagoon. They are grouped in pairs or more and serve the purpose of marking navigable routes within the lagoon area. The lower part of the briccole is deeply embedded in the ground, while the upper part is exposed to the air. The central part remains submerged in water, where salinity and mollusks (especially shipworms) act on it over decades, gradually wearing it down.
When the briccole can no longer fulfill their function, they are replaced with new ones. At this point, their extraordinary recovery begins: from the abandoned briccole wood, shaped by the unique environment of the lagoon, we are able to create unique and unrepeatable objects after long and patient work.
The surfaces are brushed and matte-finished to preserve the natural texture of the wood. The paints used are water-based, ensuring an eco-friendly and authentic finish.
